onedotzero | Sprites 11

A selection of fun packed shorts hand-picked for the new digital generation of young motion aficionados!

With visually stimulating animations from around the world, this range of comical and charming stories promise to entertain, stimulate and delight all the family in true onedotzero style.

DepicT! is an international short film competition provided by Watershed Media Centre which seeks to uncover up and coming film-making talent in the UK.
The contest is open to applications from film-makers with productions that last no longer than 90 seconds but still manage to show originality, imagination and the ability to engage audiences. Films can focus on a wide range of genres, including:

• Animation.
• Documentary.
• Drama.
• Experimental or artist film.
• Hybrid work.

All shortlisted film-makers will be invited to attend the Encounters Short Film Festival in Bristol.
The winning entry will receive a £1,500 cash prize plus UK distribution through the Digital Screen Network.
Film-makers in the UK may apply.
The deadline for entries to the 2012 competition is 9 July 2012.

We’re running the theme of “World at your feet” this year to coincide with the Plymouth Anthology of Young People’s Writing.

The following categories are available:

• International Links
  A film about any genre linked to work undertaken with  a setting or school in another country. e.g. China, France, The Gambia, Nepal, etc.
• Faster, Higher, Stronger Olympics 2012
  A film of any genre linked to exploring personal sporting achievements, local sportsman and women e.g. Tom Daley, Kath Endacott and teams or a specific sporting event:Films demonstrating the Olympic themes based on the Ancient Greek  Gods and Grecians who created the Olympics.
• Plymouth’s links with the wider world
  Film of any genre linked to exploration of the city’s connections with other cities of the world; past and present. E.g Pilgrim Fathers journey etc.
• Vision , As I See It
  A view of life in the city or personal life story reflections; vision of Plymouth in the future; sci-fi fantasy with the city as a theme.
• Open category
  Anything you can think of that doesn’t fit into the above categories!

The Ceremony is on Monday 28th November 2011 at the Theatre Royal Plymouth.

This year we are working with the Big Arts Show and have a number of themes to inspire you. These are for guidance so films do not have to fall into these categories.

• Orbits
• Past and Present
• Parallel Realities
• The Signs of Change
• The Order of Things

As it’s our 5th year, we will be awarding a special award for the best film over the last 5 years. This will be judged by a panel of experts from the industry and the winner will be announced on the night of the ceremony.

Big Voice is a national competition for students, sponsored by BT as part of the Education Programme supporting the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games. It is open to young people 11 – 19 years old, working in teams of between 5 and 8 members under the supervision of a responsible adult.
